Hundreds of motions are submitted in the Dutch House of Representatives, yet they are written in parliamentary jargon, hard to find and rarely make the news. Tools like StemWijzer only appear around elections and are based on statements rather than real votes, so most people's political preferences rest on gut feeling instead of what actually happens in parliament.
We built Mootsie, a cross-platform mobile app made with React Native and Expo. A daily pipeline pulls motions, votes and debate transcripts from the Tweede Kamer Open Data API, and Mistral AI turns each motion into a short summary at an accessible reading level, with arguments for and against based on the actual debate. A relevance score built from seven signals, such as controversy, coalition splits and understandability, selects the most talked-about motions. Users pick their themes and vote anonymously before seeing how parliament voted, then see the real outcome and a political match per party that updates with every vote. The self-hosted Appwrite backend runs on servers in the Netherlands, so all data is processed within the EU.
